Hazaribag: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at Curzon Ground on Saturday, with North Chotanagpur divisional commissioner Vijay Kumar Gupta unfurling the Tricolour, inspecting the parade and taking the salute.Paying tribute to freedom fighters, Jharkhand movement activists and soldiers who laid down their lives for the country, Gupta said the freedom secured through their sacrifices was a source of pride and carried with it the responsibility of nation-building.Highlighting welfare initiatives, Gupta said 2,82,631 women received benefits under the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana in July. More than 2.43 lakh beneficiaries receive monthly pensions under social security schemes, while 14,481 people were enrolled under the Sarvajan Pension Yojana over the past six months.He said more than 2.10 lakh rural households were receiving piped drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Around 2.01 lakh students were enrolled in 1,520 govt and aided schools.Gupta also honoured the families of freedom fighters and martyrs. Hazaribag SP and members of the police team that cracked the Barhi bank robbery case were presented certificates of appreciation.DIG Anjani Kumar and deputy commissioner Hemant Sati were among those present.
