Gurgaon: Haryana’s first dedicated Centre of Excellence for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Anti-Drone Technology was inaugurated at J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, Monday, marking the university’s entry into the defence technology sector. The centre was inaugurated by Haryana governor and university chancellor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh during the university’s sixth convocation and has been established to develop specialised manpower, promote research and strengthen indigenous capabilities in UAV, counter-UAS and anti-drone technologies.Developed by Community College of Skill Development with the department of electronics engineering, with support from the Haryana govt. The centre will provide facilities for education, practical training, research and innovation. University officials said it is the first dedicated academic centre of its kind in Haryana integrating UAV and counter-UAS technologies under one platform.Vice-chancellor Prof Rajive Kumar said the centre was aimed at creating an integrated academic ecosystem. He said students and researchers would be able to acquire theoretical knowledge, practical skills and research experience in UAV and anti-drone technologies, contributing to the development of specialised human resources and indigenous technological capabilities in the state.A major feature of the initiative is the standalone one-year PG Diploma in Anti-Drone & Autonomous Technology. The university said the programme focuses on practical and operational skills in electronic threat detection, autonomous systems and counter-drone technologies. Principal of Community College of Skill Development, Prof Sanjeev Goyal, said the centre and programme were designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world operational requirements through hands-on training, simulation, assembly and flight testing.The centre will also provide BTech students with structured 20-day certified training in UAV, tethered drone and anti-drone technologies. Research scholars will be able to work on autonomous navigation, RF security and counter-UAV algorithms, while industry collaborations will facilitate internships, AI/ML applications and exposure to defence-sector projects.The centre is equipped with advanced UAV systems, drone simulators, radio-frequency detection and analysis facilities, command-and-control systems and an integrated “detect-track-identify-neutralise” counter-UAS capability. It also has facilities for UAV assembly, flight testing, mission planning and simulation. The chairperson of the department, Prof Munish Vashishath, said the infrastructure would enable students and researchers to gain exposure to different aspects of UAV operations and anti-drone systems.During the convocation, Governor also inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in Electric Vehicle Technology, a Visual Design and Animation Studio and the newly constructed multi-storeyed Deendayal Upadhyay Knowledge Resource Centre.
