Chandigarh: Haryana recorded 85,539 cardiac-related deaths between 2019-20 and 2025-26, with the annual toll exceeding 10,000 throughout the period, according to district-wise data tabled in the assembly during the monsoon session.
Health minister Arti Singh Rao provided the figures in response to a question by Kaithal MLA Aditya Surjewala.
The data presents a wider picture of the burden of chronic diseases in the state. Taken together, deaths attributed to cardiac, pulmonary, and cancer-related diseases totalled about 1.4 lakh during the seven-year period, based on the annual figures in the govt’s annexures.
Cardiac-related deaths peaked at 14,072 in 2021-22, before declining to 12,937 in 2022-23, 11,670 in 2023-24, 11,703 in 2024-25 and 12,203 in 2025-26. The latest year’s figure translates into roughly 33 cardiac-related deaths every day. The govt data, however, records deaths attributed to cardiac-related diseases and does not establish that all were heart attacks.
Yamunanagar recorded the highest deaths, 18,334, over the seven years, followed by Rohtak and Sirsa. In 2025-26 alone, Yamunanagar accounted for 2,626 deaths, while Rohtak recorded 1,207 and Mahendergarh 1,137.
Pulmonary-related diseases accounted for another 25,431 deaths over the seven-year period. The annual toll fell from 3,567 in 2019-20 to 3,054 in 2025-26.
Cancer-related deaths, meanwhile, stood at 4,986 in 2025-26, against 4,474 in 2019-20. The cancer toll peaked at 5,453 in 2023-24 before falling to 5,419 in 2024-25 and 4,986 in 2025-26.
