Gurgaon: Buyers may soon get subsidy at the time of purchasing electric vehicles (EVs).Haryana govt is preparing to amend its Electric Vehicle Policy, 2022, with a mechanism to offer govt subsidies at the time of buying EVs instead of claiming them later being considered. There is no timeline yet for notifying the proposed amendments. At a review meeting on Wednesday, industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh directed officials to simplify the subsidy process and examine models adopted by the Centre and the Delhi govt before proposing amendments. The proposed changes would cover electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars and other eligible electric vehicles. “The objective is to make the subsidy process more transparent and consumer-friendly to encourage EV adoption, particularly in the national capital region,” said the industry minister. The govt has not disclosed the revised subsidy structure or the financial implications of the changes. Cabinet approval for the amendments also has not yet been announced.Industry and commerce department Additional Chief Secretary Amit Agrawal said Haryana’s existing EV Policy-2022 will remain in force till 2027 and that amendments would be prepared after studying similar policies implemented by the Centre and Delhi.According to the department, the proposed project envisages operating 500 electric buses across Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Jhajjar at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore, along with setting up 200 charging stations. The proposal also includes incentives for charging infrastructure, replacement of old three-wheelers, cleaner diesel generator sets, installation of continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS), improved dust and solid waste management, strengthening air quality laboratories, and measures to reduce stubble burning.Jatin Gulati, a resident of sector 48 who recently bought an EV, said Haryana should immediately make changes in its EV policy and bring it on a par with other NCR states. “UP and Delhi are offering better subsidy, so people from Haryana are buying EV and getting registered in Delhi and Noida,” said Gulati.Officials also informed the meeting that a World Bank-supported air quality improvement programme is expected to include measures promoting electric mobility in the NCR.
