GURGAON: A suspected cattle smuggler was injured in an exchange of fire with Nuh police in the Rawli Bandh area of Ferozepur Jhirka on Thursday after he allegedly opened fire at a police team during an operation. Police identified the accused as Jamshed, son of Abdul Ali, a resident of Agon village in Ferozepur Jhirka. According to police, Jamshed sustained bullet injuries to both legs during retaliatory firing and was admitted to Shaheed Hasan Khan Medical College in Nalhar for treatment. The operation was carried out by the Ferozepur Jhirka CIA staff under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Mahendra. During the operation, police rescued three cows and recovered a country-made pistol along with live cartridges from the accused’s possession. Police said the team launched the operation in the Rawli Bandh area following information about suspected cattle smuggling activity. “During the operation, the accused allegedly fired at the police team, prompting them to retaliate in self-defence,” a police spokesperson said. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Police are also verifying the accused’s criminal antecedents and probing his network to ascertain whether other members of the alleged cattle smuggling racket were involved.
