KURUKSHETRA: The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV & ACB), Kurukshetra unit, on Sunday arrested CID Haryana inspector Rajesh Kumar red-handed while allegedly accepting a Rs 5 lakh bribe in exchange for allowing vehicles transporting mining material to operate without interference.A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 308 (2) (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the SV & ACB police station, Ambala, on Sunday.According to the complaint, inspector Rajesh Kumar had allegedly been demanding a monthly bribe of Rs 10,000 per vehicle from vehicles carrying mining material.The money was allegedly sought to allow the vehicles to operate without obstruction on the Yamunanagar-Karnal route.After the complainant requested a reduction in the amount, the accused allegedly agreed on September 19 to accept Rs 7,000 per vehicle per month.He allegedly recorded details of around 70 vehicles and subsequently demanded Rs 5 lakh per month on that basis.Following verification of the complaint, the SV & ACB Kurukshetra team laid a trap and arrested Rajesh Kumar while he was allegedly accepting Rs 5 lakh in bribe.The operation was conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer and a shadow witness.The bureau said the prescribed procedure under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, was followed during the trap operation.Further investigation is underway, and additional action will be taken according to law based on facts emerging during the probe.
