Chandigarh: The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has strengthened its enforcement drive to ensure effective control of plastic pollution and protection of environment, in compliance with rules and guidelines notified by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).The board issued directions to all regional officers and field staff to ensure implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, along with amendments notified in 2018, 2021 and 2022, and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Guidelines, 2022.

A department spokesperson said during the last four weeks (from Dec 24, 2025, to Jan 20, 2026), extensive enforcement action was carried out across the state, during which a total of 1,849 challans were issued. An amount of Rs 16 lakh was imposed as environmental compensation/penalty on defaulting entities for the violations of Plastic Waste Management Rules.The board clarified that segregation, collection, transportation, processing and scientific disposal of plastic waste is mandatory under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Compliance is being ensured through regular inspections, online data verification and a robust monitoring mechanism.In cases of non-compliance, stringent action, including issuance of show-cause notices, imposition of environmental compensation, and closure directions will be initiated. All officers were instructed to follow a zero-tolerance policy in enforcement.HSPCB reiterated that protection of environment and public health remained its highest priority and appealed to all stakeholders to extend full cooperation for achieving a clean, safe and plastic-free Haryana.
