Bathinda: Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has urged chief minister Bhagwant Mann to release an immediate compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre to farmers in the Malwa region whose standing wheat crop was destroyed by the recent hailstorm.Harsimrat Badal, who interacted with affected farmers in Bhucho constituency on Sunday, said it was shocking that farmers were completely abandoned by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) govt. It was condemnable that the CM did not react to the plight of farmers by announcing compensation for them despite spending a night in the area. Even after minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian visited certain fields to take stock of the damage, the administration has not swung into action to assess crop damage, she added. She said, “The CM has previously boasted of compensating even hens and goats. Yet, as in the past—when farmers received no compensation for paddy crops destroyed in last year’s floods—the govt now shows no inclination to compensate them. Farmers are in despair, having suffered repeated losses over the past four years. The govt must provide compensation at the promised rate of Rs 50,000 per acre.”MSID:: 130039323 413 |
