Lucknow: Harivansh Rai Bachchan Memorial Trust will construct a dharamshala dedicated to poet and father of actor Amitabh Bachchan in Ayodhya on a land parcel measuring more than 50,000 sqft. A portion of the proposed rest house will also showcase the exemplary works of the poet, best known for his book Madhushala. The project is proposed at Tihura Manjha, a locality situated close to Saryu river and about 10km away from the Ram Temple. As a representative of the Trust and on behalf of the actor, Ayodhya resident Rajesh Rishikesh Yadav purchased the 54,454-sqft land parcel in March 2025.On behalf of the Bachchans, Rishikesh also purchased another land parcel in the city in Jan 2024, in the Haveli Avadh locality. Measuring 5,372 sqft, the property, according to sources, could be developed as a residential property. While submitting its building plan, the trust expressed its willingness to construct a complex with 32 rooms on the property. Four dormitories, with space to accommodate large groups, have also been proposed within the complex. Vice-chairman of Ayodhya Development Authority, Anuraj Jain, said the town planning division is examining the building plan and would issue the final go-ahead once all formalities are complete. For now, the local development authority has sought feedback from residents of the locality where the project has been proposed. “A period of 15 days is required to dispose of the objections and suggestions of local residents. It will take up to a week to close the entire process,” said an officer.Meanwhile, in its application, the trust mentioned that approval is being sought for the tentative plan to establish a dharamshala. “The plan could also be amended later, in which case a fresh map along with the necessary fees would have to be submitted. The whole process would be followed accordingly,” the officer added.
