Rajkot: A 30-year-old prisoner at Gondal Sub-Jail attempted suicide by slashing his throat, allegedly as fellow prisoners repeatedly threw rats and cockroaches into his barrack and kept threatening to kill him.Based on his complaint, Gondal City B Division police registered an FIR against Ajay alias Tido Sakariya, Bhavik alias Pako alias Gandhi Parmar, Dilip Rathod and others.The complainant, Arvind Rathod, 30, a resident of Virpur in Rajkot district, has been in Gondal Sub-Jail for three months. He was arrested by Gondal Taluka police for a theft at Gomta village and is in judicial custody in another theft case registered at Kotda Sangani police station.According to the FIR, all inmates were locked into their barracks at around 6pm on Wednesday. Later that night, fellow inmates prevented Arvind from sleeping by throwing rats and cockroaches into his barrack. When he protested, they continued to harass and intimidate him.Arvind told police that he complained to the jail guard the next morning. After the guard reprimanded the accused, they allegedly got more aggressive, abused him and threatened to kill him. Sakariya allegedly said that he would not spare Arvind.Unable to bear the harassment, Arvind attempted suicide around 9.30am by slashing his throat with a piece of sheet metal lying inside the jail premises. Jail personnel saw him bleeding and rushed him to Gondal Govt Hospital, where he was treated.
