Hisar: Tension gripped Hansi on Wednesday as a 21-day strike by Municipal Council and fire brigade employees turned confrontational after the administration deployed agency workers to carry out sanitation work.The situation escalated in the Kali Devi area when striking employees allegedly tried to stop the agency team. A scuffle broke out between the workers and police, following which around 20-22 male and female sanitation workers were detained.Police later shifted the workers from Hansi City police station towards Jind in a bus. Other striking employees followed the vehicle and allegedly stopped it near the Hisar-Delhi bypass, surrounding the bus and leading to another confrontation. The detained workers were subsequently released.Fire brigade employee Vinod Kumar said Municipal Council and fire department employees had been on strike for 21 days, with Sarv Karamchari Sangh supporting the agitation. He said workers were not opposed to sanitation work but were protesting the administration’s decision to outsource cleaning operations.Garbage was also found dumped inside the Municipal Council office. Kumar denied that striking workers were behind it and said it appeared to have been the work of an unidentified person.Members of Sarv Karamchari Sangh later submitted a memorandum to SDM Rajesh Khoth at the district secretariat, seeking an early resolution of their demands and warning that the strike would continue without concrete action.
