Madikeri: In some parts of Kodagu district, rainfall was reported on Monday night. Madikeri received thundershowers on Monday night. Heavy rain with hailstones was recorded in Chikka Aluvara, Torenur, Hebbale and Shirangala areas of Torenur gram panchayat. Hailstone rainfall was witnessed in the Guddehosur area near Kushalnagar on Monday evening. A coconut tree fell on farmers’ houses within the limits of Shirangala panchayat damaging houses. The roofs of farmers’ houses were damaged, and rice and millet crops were damaged.The first rain of the year, accompanied by hailstones, lashed the surrounding villages for more than half an hour in the evening. It completely damaged the roof of the house of SH Sundara, a resident of Chikkanayakana Hosahalli in Shirangala village, and damaged about 40 bags of paddy and millet stored in the house.Similarly, damage was caused to the house of Harish and Palguna in the village after a coconut tree fell on the property. The house and the smokestack shed were also damaged. As a result of the tree falling, a new tractor parked in front of the house was badly damaged. Forest staff removed the tree that fell on the house. The family members in the house were safe. The electricity pole near the house also fell.Tahsildar Kiran Gouraiah, revenue inspector Santhosh, village accountant Gurudarshan, panchayat development officer GR Hemalatha, secretary Mansoor Khan and forest staff visited the spot and inspected it.
