Guwahati: Voice of Environment (VoE) held a waste-management and thermocol-recycling awareness programme at Vivekananda Vidyapith ME School in Lalganesh.The programme, “Waste Wise, Future Wise: Sustainable Waste Management and Thermocol Recycling”, drew 78 students — 35 boys and 43 girls — and focused on responsible disposal, recycling and environmental conservation.Researcher and environmentalist Moharana Choudhury stressed the need to build environmentally responsible habits early. “The session helped students understand the problems associated with indiscriminate thermocol disposal and the importance of reducing, reusing, and properly managing such waste through the 3R circular economy concept,” Choudhury said.An interactive quiz, “Think Green, Act Green,” tested students’ knowledge of environmental issues and sustainable practices. Piyush Paul, Ansita Roy, Maumita Sutradhar, Bibek Biswas, Nikita Mollik, Ankita Roy and Subhashree Biswas received prizes.Madhab Das, Cluster Resource Centre coordinator for the Dakshin Guwahati-1 Cluster, spoke on environmental education’s role in building a cleaner, sustainable society.Niraj Kashyap, assistant engineer with the Pollution Control Board of Assam, discussed the environmental impact of thermocol waste, the hazards of burning plastic and proper disposal practices.Head teacher Supta Sengupta and VoE members attended the programme.
