Hyderabad: The stage is set for the assembly budget session, which kicks off on Monday, beginning with an address by governor Shiv Pratap Shukla.Deputy chief minister and finance minister Bhatti Vikramarka would unveil the budget on March 20. Speculation is rife that the budget allocations will reflect the aspirations of the Vision-2047 document.The ruling Congress party is bracing itself to face a barrage of questions from the opposition, particularly on pressing issues such as the recent controversies surrounding the supply issues of LPG and petrol, which were exacerbated by the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran.Tensions have already flared between Congress and the opposition parties, BRS and BJP, particularly over contentious matters related to the Godavari water projects. The assembly is expected to see spirited discussions as lawmakers dive deeper into these debates. Another hot topic, the Naini coal block controversy triggered allegations of corruption linked to mining tenders, a matter that Congress pledged to address.In addition to these critical issues, significant projects like the Musi rejuvenation and the Gandhi Sarovar project would also be brought to the forefront, along with discussions regarding the Bhoodan land in Khammam. Congress members were preparing their defences to counter any opposition criticism.Adding to the political dynamics, Dornakal Congress MLA J Ram Chander Naik was appointed deputy speaker last June. However, the formal election process is still pending, raising concerns about its timeline. BRS voiced its discontent over the extended vacancy of this crucial role, emphasising its significance within the assembly framework.
