Gurgaon: The dengue cases’ tally in the city has touched 60.With this, the city has the highest number of dengue cases across Haryana — with 244 cases this season. Two fresh cases were detected on Thursday.Experts have warned against self-medication with medicines that “may increase bleeding risk unless advised by a doctor”.The city has issued 2,259 notices under municipal bylaws for mosquito breeding violations, indicating continued enforcement alongside surveillance and testing.According to the latest district health department bulletin — issued on Sept 10 under National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme — 241 dengue samples were collected during the day, taking the cumulative number of samples collected in the city to 10,141.CK Birla Hospital’s associate director, internal medicine, Tushar Tayal told TOI, “The increase in dengue patients around the monsoon period warranted greater vigilance. In recent weeks, we have observed an estimated 20-30% increase in patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of dengue compared with the period before the monsoon.”“Dengue can initially present with high fever, intense headache, body ache, nausea and fatigue, symptoms that can overlap with other infections. Early consultations are essential in such circumstances, especially if there is a persistent fever. Adequate hydration and regular monitoring are important. Symptoms — including vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding, breathing difficulty, extreme exhaustion or drowsiness — require immediate medical attention,” Tayal said, while laying emphasis on prevention, including eliminating stagnant water, using mosquito repellents and nets and preventing mosquito breeding in residential surroundings.The district health department has stepped up surveillance. Rapid fever mass survey teams covered 17,229 houses on Wednesday, taking the cumulative number of houses covered to 11.79 lakh.The teams prepared 896 blood slides on Wednesday, while 1,93,181 malaria blood slides have been prepared in the district since January. Five malaria cases have been detected in the city so far this year, with no new case reported on Wednesday.At the state level, 27 dengue testing laboratories are functional in Haryana, with at least one in every district, while blood sampling has also been started at CHC and PHC levels with a focus on high-risk areas.The state bulletin said 2.12 crore house visits for source reduction had been carried out till July 31, with mosquito larvae found in 44,289 houses. Districts have also been directed to prepare micro-plans for anti-larval and fogging activities.The department has identified stagnant water in coolers, overhead tanks, discarded tyres, plastic containers, flower pots and other items as potential breeding sites for Aedes aegypti.
