Gurgaon: A govt school teacher appointed as an enumerator for Census 2027 allegedly refused to perform Census duties and obstructed govt work, prompting MCM to file a complaint. An FIR has been registered under Section 11 of the Census Act, 1948.The teacher said he had informed his supervisor that he would be on leave from May 4 because his mother was having an eye surgery. He said he received an email on May 16 saying that his Census duties had been revoked.His supervisor, Sunita Devi, said the accused was assigned Census fieldwork under Circle 017 and failed to start the work despite repeated instructions. The complaint was forwarded to the Kherki Daula police station by the joint commissioner-cum-nodal officer of MCM through a memo on May 11. Authorities have sought immediate registration of an FIR and legal action against the teacher.“Section 11 of the Census Act deals with refusal or neglect to perform duties assigned during Census operations and obstruction of Census work. The law prescribes punishment, including imprisonment that may extend up to three years,” an MCM official said, stressing that the alleged negligence affected operations in the area.The municipal corporation also forwarded the matter to senior Census authorities for further action.
