GURGAON: Gurgaon Police, along with the Haryana State Commission for Women, conducted a six-hour joint raid at 18 spa centres operating from Sapphire 90 Mall in Sector 90 on Friday night, acting on suo motu cognizance of suspected illegal activities.The raid was conducted from 10pm to 3am in the presence of Haryana State Commission for Women chairperson Usha Priyadarshini, her team and the Duty Magistrate. Nearly 100 police personnel, including around 20 inspectors and sub-inspectors, took part in the operation.The operation was conducted under the supervision of Abhilaksh Joshi, HPS, ACP Headquarters-I, Gurgaon, who is also the designated Special Police Officer under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.During simultaneous raids, police found prima facie evidence of suspected illegal activities at eight of the 18 spa centres. Electronic and digital devices, physical material and documents were seized and are being examined as part of the investigation into the alleged network and the roles of owners, operators, managers and facilitators.Around 30 women and 20 men were found at the premises, police said. The women are being questioned to establish their circumstances and identify any possible chain or network and those allegedly facilitating such activities.The role of the men found at the premises is also being verified, and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence gathered, police said.The preliminary investigation and proceedings were conducted by ACP Headquarters-I, who is also the Special Police Officer. Further investigation will be carried out by the SHO of Kherki Daula police station.Gurgaon Police said it maintains zero tolerance towards organised illegal activities being carried out under the guise of legitimate commercial establishments. Further investigation is underway.
