Gurgaon: Two fresh dengue cases — a 33-year-old man from Dhorka village and a nine-year-old boy from New Palam Vihar — have taken the city’s dengue tally to 10 this year, prompting the health department to intensify surveillance as monsoon conditions favour mosquito breeding.Health teams surveyed 13,501 houses under the rapid fever mass survey in the last round, taking the cumulative coverage to 8,484 houses this year. They also collected 62 blood samples for dengue testing, raising the total number of samples tested to 4,096. No dengue-related death has been reported so far.The malaria situation remained unchanged on Monday, with no fresh cases reported. The cumulative malaria count stands at four, while the surveillance team has prepared 168,097 blood slides for testing since Jan.The district has also stepped up its vector control drive. Authorities have issued 1,007 notices under Section 214 of the Municipal Bye-laws Act, 1973, to owners of premises where mosquito breeding conditions were detected.With intermittent rainfall and waterlogging providing ideal breeding conditions for Aedes mosquitoes, health officials have warned that dengue cases could rise further. The infection commonly presents with fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, along with a characteristic measles-like skin rash.Residents have been advised to ensure water does not collect in coolers, flower pots, tyres and other containers, and to seek prompt medical care if fever persists. Doctors have cautioned against self-medication for flu-like symptoms and advised residents to wear full-sleeved clothing and use mosquito repellents to reduce the risk of infection.Last year, Gurgaon recorded 64 dengue cases, including 24 reported in July, with no fatalities.
