Gurgaon: Residents of Ramprastha City in Sector 37D have written to the chief minister and civic authorities, seeking intervention over inadequate water supply in the township.In their complaint, residents said hundreds of families have faced shortages for nearly two years due to alleged mismanagement by the developer. They stated that water supply has not been increased despite a steady rise in occupancy. With summer approaching, they warned that the situation may worsen without corrective measures.According to residents, GMDA sanctioned 2,200 kilolitres per day (KLD) of water for the project, but only around 750 KLD is currently being supplied. They also alleged frequent pipeline punctures and a lack of infrastructure expansion in line with the growing population.The township comprises The View, Atrium, Edge and EWS blocks, along with commercial areas. “As per the norm, 150 litres per capita per day should be provided. However, the present supply is inadequate for the existing population,” said Saurabh Mittal, general secretary of The View.Residents said they are relying on private tankers for daily needs despite paying full maintenance and service charges. “Families who invested their life savings here are now dependent on private tankers for drinking water. Charges are collected irrespective of whether adequate services are provided. Despite repeated meetings and written representations to the developer, there has been no improvement,” Mittal said.Under the occupation certificate conditions, the developer is responsible for common area services, including water and electricity. Residents said Rs 324 per flat is collected as water charges through prepaid meters, regardless of the actual supply. They added that although the management earlier acknowledged the need for additional pipelines, no visible work has begun.They urged GMDA to conduct an inspection of the water supply and distribution system and to revise and augment the connection in line with current population norms.Describing the situation as a public health concern, the residents stated that irregular supply and reliance on private tankers of uncertain source affect hygiene and sanitation.Dinesh Raina, RWA president of The Atrium, said residents continue to face severe shortages despite paying full maintenance charges. “We are forced to arrange costly private tankers even though the project remains under partial handover and the builder retains control of essential services,” he said. He added that the society does not have a completion certificate and that interest-free maintenance security (IFMS) funds remain unpaid.Meanwhile, the facility management said water is being distributed in proportion to the quantity received from GMDA. “We are supplying water to residents in proportion to what we receive from GMDA. Flow meters are already installed and anyone can verify the data. It is not possible for us to give more water to some and less to others,” a representative said, adding that some residents are not using treated STP water for flushing and are instead using potable water. “Residents have been informed that potable water should not be misused. If treated water is not used for flushing, it increases the burden on the potable supply. The issue of water supply has been taken up with GMDA,” the representative said.
