Ahmedabad: With the PhD admission process nearing completion across universities in the state, Gujarat University (GU) will conduct its PhD entrance test on Saturday after a delay caused by pending verification of applications. The delay has drawn attention as the university administration has been promoting online education initiatives, yet an online system for verification of PhD applicants could not be implemented, said sources. The entrance exam will be held from noon to 2pm on Saturday. The 100-mark test will comprise two sections, with 50 marks allotted to general aptitude and 50 marks to the candidate’s respective subject.University officials said the provisional answer key will be released on the same evening after the exam. However, as in previous years, candidates will not be provided with individual answer sheets, a practice that has often drawn criticism from aspirants seeking greater transparency in the evaluation process.Meanwhile, Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will conduct its PhD entrance test on Sunday, Oct 4. A total of 601 candidates are expected to appear for the exam.GTU officials said 64 candidates have been exempted from the entrance test on account of having qualified in NET, SLET or other recognised exams. Another 158 applicants have been declared ineligible for admission due to various reasons. With the two major state universities conducting their entrance tests over the weekend, the next phase of the PhD admission process, including declaration of results and allocation of research seats, is expected to begin shortly thereafter.
