Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt on Saturday said 20 roads will be built in the state using climate-resilient and green technologies at a cost of Rs 1,147 crore, with materials from existing roads to be reused. The process involves digging up the existing road, spreading lime, and pulverizing and rolling the excavated material to stabilize it. After dry rolling, cement is spread over the surface. Seven days later, a non-woven stress-absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI) is laid, followed by asphalt. SAMI is a high-tech fibre sheet placed before asphalt is laid. It is designed to prevent cracks, absorb vehicle pressure, and extend the life of the road. It added that newer technologies, including the use of waste plastic and fly ash in road construction, are also being adopted.
