Ahmedabad: Amid growing concerns over road accidents involving minors, State School Management Federation Trust has issued a directive imposing a strict ban on students bringing two-wheelers to schools across Gujarat. The decision applies to all grant-in-aid and self-financed schools in the state.According to an official communication issued by federation president Bhaskar Patel, several incidents have been reported in which underage students, without valid driving licences, rode two-wheelers to schools and became victims of road accidents, some of them resulting in deaths. Calling such incidents alarming, the federation emphasised the responsibility of schools in ensuring student safety and discipline.Under the new guidelines, students who have not reached the legal driving age or do not possess valid licences are strictly prohibited from bringing any vehicle onto school premises. For students who hold valid driving licences, schools must collect written consent letters from their parents, along with copies of the students’ licences, before allowing them to bring vehicles.Additionally, such students will only be permitted to use their vehicles during specified timings, aligned with school hours, and proper records must be maintained by the school administration. The federation has urged all school managements to strictly enforce the rules in line with RTO regulations regarding age limits and licensing. The move aims to reduce the increasing number of road accidents and ensure safer commutes for students.Officials believe that strict implementation of these measures will help prevent accidents and protect lives, while also ensuring that schools are not held accountable for negligence in such cases.
