Ahmedabad: A Gandhinagar sessions court has sentenced a man from Dahod district to life imprisonment for killing a woman near Koba during a dacoity in Oct 2016.The court convicted Manji Bhuriya in the case, while acquitting another accused, Subhash Bhuriya, of all charges. The FIR was registered at Infocity police station, after which the two accused were arrested and put on trial.Public prosecutor P D Vyas examined 31 witnesses and submitted 62 documentary pieces of evidence to prove the charges. After the court held Manji guilty, Vyas sought the maximum punishment, arguing that he had caused fatal injuries to the victim, Chetna Patel, and that the sentence should serve as a deterrent.The court, however, held that the case did not fall in the “rarest of rare” category. It sentenced Manji to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 28,000.
