Ahmedabad: The Gujarat govt has granted approval to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) to obtain the status of an Awarding Body (AB) from the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET). This move is expected to significantly strengthen vocational education in the state and provide students with nationally recognised skill-based certifications.NCVET is the apex regulatory body established by the Govt of India to improve the quality and standards of vocational education and skill training across the country. Once the Gujarat board secures recognition as an Awarding Body, it will gain the authority to independently design training programmes, conduct assessments and issue certificates in accordance with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).This will offer several advantages to students. Certificates issued by the board will be valid across India, enhancing employment opportunities in various sectors. Students will also benefit in higher education, as these certifications can support admissions and progression in skill-based academic pathways.Officials believe that this initiative will bring a major improvement in the quality of vocational education in Gujarat. It will help shift the focus from traditional rote-based learning to practical, industry-oriented skills. As a result, students are expected to become more capable, self-reliant and job-ready, aligning their abilities with the evolving demands of the job market. The decision marks a significant step towards integrating education with employability and building a skilled workforce for the future.
