Ahmedabad: A 21-year-old newlywed was abducted from her grandfather’s home in broad daylight on Sunday in Limbodara village of Mansa, Gandhinagar district. The attackers came twice. First in the morning with three men, but the family fought them off. So, they returned in the afternoon with 8 to 10 people. During the second attack, the grandfather was stabbed with a knife and other family members were assaulted. The woman, who had been married just a month and a half ago, was dragged into a vehicle and driven away. A case of abduction and assault has been registered at Mansa police station. Two of the suspects have been identified while police are searching for the rest.According to the FIR filed on Monday, the woman was visiting her parental village when the incident occurred. She had come to see her 65-year-old grandfather, a cattle rearer, at his residence.Police said that the attack unfolded in two stages. In the morning, three masked men arrived in a car with tinted windows and attempted to drag the woman away while she was doing household chores. Family members intervened, forcing the group to flee following a brief scuffle.However, things did not end there. The group came back in the afternoon, this time in greater numbers. Around 8 to 10 men arrived in a car and on motorcycles and launched a violent assault on the family. The grandfather was attacked with a knife. Another relative was beaten with a pipe. Women in the family were also assaulted during the attack.In the chaos, the group forcibly took the woman and fled. Police said two of the suspects have been identified, and efforts are on to trace the remaining accused. An FIR filed at Mansa police station on Monday includes charges of abduction, assault, and other relevant offences. Police have identified two of the suspects. Teams have been formed to locate the woman and arrest the remaining accused.
