Gandhinagar: The much-delayed Ahmedabad city draft development plan of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) is expected to be made public in June, soon after the end of civic body polls.Key sources close to the development informed that major changes are likely to be made in the new draft development plan (DP), along with adding newer areas within the limits of the urban development authority.“Instead of being a 10-year development plan, the new DP will focus on the vision of 2041 and 2047 to provide a major uplift to the city infrastructure even as Ahmedabad will host the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and a bid has been made to host the Olympic Games in 2036,” key sources in the govt said.Sources added that the govt aims to drastically reduce air pollution in Ahmedabad before the CWG Games. “There is a strong likelihood that existing industrial areas within the city will be incentivised to shift outside city limits. Such industries are likely to get lucrative incentives to shift outside the city,” sources said.Sources further said that in the proposed DP, the govt might deregulate the existing agri and green zones to allow commercial, residential and non-industrial development. “New green zones are expected to be added in areas that are proposed to be included within Auda limits. Outgrowth areas in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Mehsana districts are expected to be added in the new DP. The state govt has also directed that the North Gujarat SER (special economic region) planning should also be incorporated within the new DP of Ahmedabad,” said sources.The draft for a new development plan (DP) has to be prepared before the 10-year term of the existing plan concludes. However, Auda is yet to finalise the draft for the new plan, although the 10-year plan, and its further extension, ended a year ago.Sources said Auda has opted to break away from the regular practice of preparing 10-year term plans and is drafting a 20-year DP stretching to 2041, a shift driven largely by the prospect of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar hosting the 2036 Olympics.
