Panaji: Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (GSIDC) has unveiled plans to build a five-floor govt administrative complex at Morod, Mapusa.The Rs 110 crore structure will house various govt departments and a supermarket on the ground floor, said GSIDC chairperson Michael Lobo. The site is next to the fish and vegetable market at Mapusa.“Mapusa is not just a hub for Bardez, but also for North Goa; people of Pernem, Sattari and Bicholim come here to get their work done or to do some shopping,” he said. “In Mapusa, govt offices are scattered all over, whether it is sub-registrar, electricity department, PWD, mamlatdar’s office, and parking was a total mess.”According to Lobo, the proposed complex will have parking for 190 cars and around 500 two-wheelers in the basement and in the open parking space. Four lifts will be installed in the complex, he said.Lobo said that the proposal has been submitted to the finance department for approval after which it will be tendered. He said that it currently is very difficult for residents to find parking in the current complex.“The road from Bodgeshwar temple to the building of the defunct Mapusa Urban Co-operative Bank will be widened a bit. This is a 5,000 sqm govt plot and we will have space for 500 two-wheelers. This will give big relief for the people of Bardez,” said GSIDC chief.He said that instructions have been issued to various govt departments to shift out of the present structure that is on the site so that demolition can begin. He said that soil testing at the site has also begun.
