Nagpur: A 13-year veteran of the Govt Railway Police (GRP) attached to the Cyber Cell in Nagpur died after suffering a severe neck and spine injury while diving into a swimming pool at a farmhouse in Kuhi area, where he had gone for a service get-together.The deceased, Sachin Awari, was regarded as a highly disciplined and dedicated police personnel who was committed to his duties.As per preliminary information, Awari had gone to a farmhouse within the Kuhi police jurisdiction along with colleagues to mark the completion of 13 years of service.During the gathering, Awari reportedly dived into the swimming pool, which had around five feet of water. The dive went tragically wrong, causing a serious injury to his neck. He reportedly suffered a fracture of the spinal bone and subsequently stopped breathing.Those present at the farmhouse immediately made efforts to help him. However, his condition deteriorated and he died following the spinal injury.Additional SP Anil Mhaske ruled out foul play. “Prima facie, the CCTV footage showed the victim had taken a plunge into a shallow water of the swimming tank which caused the spinal injury,” said Mhaske.The incident has left his colleagues in the GRP shocked. Police are expected to conduct further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The exact sequence of events leading to the fatal injury will be established during the inquiry. A case of accidental death was registered at Kuhi police station.
