Mysuru: Mysuru district administration and Sri Kshetra Chamundeshwari development authority have deployed green warriors to create awareness among devotees against single-use plastic and prevent its use atop Chamundi Hills, during the Ashadha Fridays.Volunteer teams have also been stationed at Lalitha Mahal Palace Grounds and will work in shifts from morning till evening. Green warriors are also deployed from the foothills of Chamundi Hills along the climbing stretch, to check the plastic menace this year.Even though the state govt and the district administration have put a blanket ban on use of single-use plastic materials atop Chamundi Hills, which is one of the highest revenue-generating Muzrai temples in the state after Kukke Subramanya, in Dakshina Kannada district and MM Hills temple, in Chamarajanagar taluk, heaps of plastic covers, cups, plates and other plastic items continue to be found along the climbing stretch of Chamundi Hills.Following directions from regional commissioner Nitesh Patil, who is also administrator of Mysuru City Corporation, the Sri Kshetra Chamundeshwari development authority has now decided to act tough on the plastic menace. By taking help of various environment associations, authorities have deployed green warriors to maintain cleanliness as well as discouraging devotees from using single-use plastic materials.Green warriors are also authorised to seize plastic water bottles if devotees are found carrying them on buses or found using plastic plates and cups at Lalitha Mahal grounds and other spots. Sri Kshetra Chamundeshwari development authority has made alternative arrangements for drinking water by opening additional drinking water supply points, tap water connections, and reverse osmosis plants in the hill shrine this year.
