Mysuru: In a big blow to the aspirations of the residents, especially those who are residing in the city’s outskirts, which are facing problems in getting drinking water among other basic facilities, the formation of the Greater Mysuru City Corporation will be delayed further.Speaking to reporters, Urban development minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah, who is also Mysuru district minister, said the census has delayed the process. “It is not possible now. We need to maintain the status quo. After census is completed, it will be done,” he said.It can be recalled that state govt notified the formation of the Greater Mysuru City Corporation on Jan 9. Thirty days were given to file objections. Since then, there has been no progress in this regard. Meanwhile, Yathindra also stated that footpath clearance must be done only after issuing notices, and providing an alternative location.Earlier in the development review meeting, Yathindra directed MCC officials to complete all civil works at least a week before Dasara. He also directed officials to ensure that ongoing white-topping work does not cause inconvenience to the public and tourists during Dasara. He also directed officials not to take up any long-term projects two months ahead of the Dasara, and expressed his displeasure over starting the flyover works at the intersection of Bengaluru-Mysuru NH-275 and the Outer Ring Road, ahead of Dasara. He also directed NHAI officials to consult local MLAs and district minister while taking up NH works, citing complaints he received over T Narasipura road work. When asked about requirements of the children with special needs not taken care of, while finalising the white-topping works near All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in Bogadi, the minister assured that he will seek information from the PWD officials. Parents of the children with special needs, various organisations including Greenpeace India, urged the MCC, PWD and the district administration to make the road special-children-friendly in the area. However, now it has been alleged that their concerns were not taken care of, while taking up the white-topping works.
