Srinagar, May 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday issued a public clarification dismissing as “fake” a purported government order being circulated on social media regarding the preponement of a holiday on account of Urs Hazrat Ameer Kabir.

According to an official statement, the alleged order was falsely attributed to the General Administration Department (GAD) and had not been issued by any authorised government office.

Authorities urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from sharing unverified information on digital platforms.

Citizens were advised to rely solely on official government websites, verified social media handles, and authorised communication channels for authentic updates related to public holidays and administrative orders.

The administration also warned that the circulation of forged documents and misinformation constitutes a punishable offence under law. Officials stated that strict legal action would be initiated against individuals found involved in creating or disseminating fake government notifications.

The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media, which officials say can create unnecessary confusion among the public and disrupt administrative functioning.

Government departments have repeatedly appealed to citizens to verify the authenticity of documents before forwarding them online and to report suspicious or misleading content to the concerned authorities.
