Patna: The state govt has urged people to opt for Piped Natural Gas (PNG) stating it has simplified the process for obtaining domestic PNG connections to promote clean, safe, and environment-friendly energy.A press release issued by the IPRD said citizens can now apply online from home, reducing dependence on traditional gas cylinders and enabling continuous gas supply.It said the domestic PNG connections are being provided by different City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies across districts. For instance, in Patna, the service is being provided by GAIL. In Banka, HPCL is the provider, while in Begusarai, Think Gas is handling connections. IOAGPL is providing services in Gaya and Nalanda. BPCL is responsible for Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Madhubani, West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Siwan, and Supaul. In the remaining districts, IOCL city gas distribution companies are providing domestic PNG connections.“Consumers can register online free of cost through the official website of the CGD company operating in their district. During the application process, applicants will have to upload documents, including identity and address proofs, in the prescribed format. After successful verification, a unique BP (Business Partner) number is issued, which is used for future services and billing,” said the release.For a domestic PNG connection, consumers are required to pay a one-time refundable and interest-free security deposit of Rs4,500. An optional arrangement is also available under which a connection can be obtained by depositing Rs500, which is refundable, along with a daily rental charge of Rs1. This arrangement can later be converted into the full Rs4,500 plan.After the application is submitted, a technical survey is conducted to assess the feasibility of the connection. Once approved, the external network is extended through an MDPE pipeline, and gas is supplied to the household through galvanised iron or copper pipes. Installation includes fitting of the gas meter, regulator, and piping, along with leakage testing and other required safety checks.At the time of activation, the consumer’s existing LPG stove is modified for PNG use. Gas supply begins only after inspection and compliance with all prescribed safety standards. The entire process is being carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, aimed at ensuring consumer safety and convenience.Officials said the availability of domestic PNG connections will depend on the expansion of the CGD network in the area concerned. Consumers have been advised to contact the CGD company operating in their district for detailed information.
