Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt took up a project to rejuvenate 131 barren parks in municipalities of the state, of which 70 parks were revitalized, govt said on Thursday. The project, worth Rs 117.56 crore, is being implemented under AMRUT 2.0 (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation).Providing examples of the project, the statement said, “Bhavani Garden in the Lathi municipality area became barren and was not being used by residents. The existing trees in the garden were preserved, and indigenous tree species were planted along walkways and around the garden to create a natural habitat for migratory and local birds.”Similarly, the Kailasvatika Garden in Palanpur municipality was redeveloped over an area of 10,000 square metres, with several amenities such as a children’s play area and equipment, facilities for the differently abled, gazebos, seating arrangements, and the like.“Work on redeveloping 70 gardens in municipalities is complete, and work on redeveloping 61 gardens is ongoing. These redeveloped gardens will enhance urban air quality and help restore ecological balance in densely populated urban areas. By integrating local plants and trees, these green spaces are also preserving local biodiversity,” the statement added.
