Chatra: A complaint has been lodged against the principal of a govt school in Chatra district for allegedly assaulting a Class V student.According to the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the 10-year-old sustained multiple injury marks on her hands and legs and was later treated at Sadar hospital. The girl’s mother alleged that principal Ranjan Kumar often harassed her daughter out of personal bias and beat her with a stick in school on Friday. She submitted a written complaint at Sadar police station on Saturday seeking action against Kumar.The principal, however, denied the allegations and claimed that the student was quarrelling with one of her classmates and using abusive language. “I only tried to stop her and didn’t assault the child,” he said.Sadar police station officer in-charge Awadhesh Kumar Singh said that a probe is underway.District superintendent of education Ramji Kumar said, “A departmental inquiry would be conducted to ascertain the facts. If the claims are true, action will be taken against the principal.”
