Srinagar, May 20 : A school in south Kashmir’s Hapatnar area has been renamed in honour of Aadil Hussain Shah, a tourist guide who lost his life while shielding visitors during last year’s terror attack in Pahalgam.
The government renamed Hapatnar High School as Shaheed Aadil Memorial High School at a ceremony attended by Minister Sakeena Itoo.Speaking at the event in Anantnag, Itoo, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said Aadil’s sacrifice would remain etched in public memory.
Along with Jammu and Kashmir, he has left his mark across the country. No one can forget the courage it takes to save others by risking one’s own life,” she said.Recalling the incident, the minister said she visited the site the same night.
“When we learnt about his bravery, it was something no one can forget,” she added.Itoo also said the renaming reflected the government’s commitment to honouring martyrs. “Within a year, the school has been renamed after Aadil Hussain Shah.
His name will be remembered by generations,” she said.She added that the gesture would bring some solace to the bereaved family. “For his parents, this recognition may offer a measure of comfort in their grief,” she said.—(KNO)
