Patna: The state govt has put further proceedings on hold for the proposed Mata Sita Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (Maa Sita Women’s University) in Patna, pending consultations with stakeholders after the ongoing election process.According to a press release from the chief minister’s secretariat, the higher education department has been directed to consider stakeholders’ suggestions before taking further action. Discussions and subsequent steps will begin only after the elections conclude.A final decision on the university’s structure and implementation will be taken after the post-election consultations.The state cabinet had earlier approved the proposed women’s university under the Bihar Specialised Universities Act, 2026. However, the plan faced opposition from faculty members of regular constituent colleges, who raised concerns over organisational changes, administrative restructuring and institutional autonomy.
