Madikeri: The Karnataka state govt is pro-poor it has been providing all the facilities required for the poorest of the society to live with dignity, said Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna.Speaking after extending documents to eligible beneficiaries selected under the Basava and Ambedkar Housing Scheme in Madikeri taluk’s 18 gram panchayats on Saturday, Ponnanna explained that the then housing minister Zameer Ahmed provided housing facilities under the Basava and Ambedkar Housing Schemes, and with the cooperation of former CM Siddaramaiah and the present chief minister DK Shivakumar, the district received funds for house construction.Madikeri taluk panchayat executive officer Shekhar said that the govt sanctioned the construction of 1,200 houses in the district. It is proposed to construct 527 houses in Virajpet constituency. In the first phase, efforts have been made to provide permanent shelter to 427 eligible families in Virajpet assembly constituency of Peraje, Chembu, Sampaje, Made, Bettageri, Cherambane, Kundacheri, Bhagamandala, Karike, Aiyangeri, Ballamavati, Emmemadu-Napoklu, Kunjila-Kakkabbe, Nariyandada, Hakathur, Mekeri and Konanjageri gram panchayats. He said that the district administration will identify the site in the coming days and construct houses for beneficiaries.DC SJ Somasekhar, zilla panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena, Madikeri Taluk Guarantee Implementation Committee chairman Mandrira Mohan Das were present.
