Ahmedabad: The process of determining recruitment rules and qualification standards for physical education teachers in the state’s govt primary schools has begun. The office of Director of Primary Education has set up a high-level committee of subject experts. The 12-member panel will hold its first meeting on July 28 at the Vidya Samiksha Kendra. New posts for physical education teachers have been approved in 1,141 govt primary schools with 501 or more students, and before recruitment begins for these positions, the rules and eligibility criteria will be finalised.After the implementation of Right to Education Act, regular recruitment of physical education teachers in primary schools effectively came to a halt. Representations to fill up the posts were made on umpteen occasions.
Now, however, in view of the implementation of the new National Education Policy and changing educational needs, steps have been initiated to begin permanent recruitment of physical education teachers in primary schools.
Education department has decided to create new posts of PE teachers. A committee has been constituted to determine the minimum academic and professional qualifications for the new hires. The committee includes experienced officials and experts from the state’s education and sports sectors.
