Udupi: Udupi district minister Rizwan Arshad said that the state govt has set a new culture of serving the most vulnerable, the elderly, the extremely poor, labourers, and women through ‘Prajaseva Andolana’ (public service campaign) meetings at the taluk and hobli levels.He was chairing a Prajaseva Andolana meeting organised by prajaseva department, Kaup taluk administration, at Kaup taluk office on Saturday.“Operating under the motto ‘Govt at your doorstep’, govt is working to resolve the problems and grievances of the common people. Elected representatives and govt officials are reaching out to the people through these Prajaseva Andolana meetings. By extensively publicising these meetings and ensuring that the most vulnerable, the elderly, the extremely poor, labourers, and women benefit from them, our govt has created a new culture,” he said.Stating that tourism is the biggest strength of the coastal region, the minister said that with the development of tourism, the migration of local youth to other parts of the country and abroad for employment can be prevented. “By fostering peace and harmony in society, and creating an environment where people of all castes and religions live together amicably, and simultaneously undertaking development works, the coastal region can be transformed into a model of paradise for the world to see,” he said.Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty said that the govt has taken a bold step to protect the public interest, and this must be successfully carried forward. “Elected representatives and officials must work systematically as a link between govt and society. In the Prajaseva Andolana meetings, it is not just about receiving applications and issuing endorsements. Instead, officials must provide a resolution within 21 days,” he said.If solutions cannot be found at that level, those issues will be discussed at govt level,” he added.Deputy commissioner Swaroopa TK delivered the keynote address. A poster for Krishi Mela-2026 was released. During the meeting, 75 applications related to various departments were submitted by the public.
