Guwahati: Assam’s urban development agenda is set for a major push under the “Viksit Assam” initiative, with housing and urban affairs minister Kaushik Rai directing officials to finalise high-impact projects aimed at strengthening civic infrastructure and improving urban living standards across the state.Rai chaired a meeting with senior officials of the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs (DoHUA) on Sunday evening to review the preparation and finalisation of proposals to be submitted under the initiative.According to a govt release, the minister emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among all concerned agencies and directed officials to prepare comprehensive, outcome-oriented proposals with clear priorities and implementation strategies.“The meeting focused on identifying and prioritising high-impact projects aimed at accelerating urban development, strengthening civic infrastructure and improving the quality of life of citizens across the state,” the release said.Officials said proposals were being compiled by various DoHUA units, including Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Urban Infrastructure Company Ltd (GUCL), Town and Country Planning (T&CP), DoHUA Technical Cell, Guwahati Jal Board, AMRUT and Guwahati Smart City Ltd (GSCL).Senior officials, including housing and urban affairs commissioner and secretary Kavitha Padmanabhan, Guwahati Smart City Ltd managing director S Lakshmanan and Guwahati Jal Board managing director Rohan Kumar Jha, attended the meeting along with officials from the municipal administration, GMC, GMDA, T&CP, AMRUT, GUCL and GSCL.Rai called for proposals focused on transformative, high-impact projects aligned with Assam’s development goals and its vision for a progressive future.
