Jaipur: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tikaram Jully Thursday accused the state govt of failing to curb illegal mining in chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s home district Bharatpur.Jully posted on X, describing the situation as “extremely unfortunate and shameful” for the govt, noting that despite clear warnings from former cabinet minister and erstwhile Bharatpur royal family head Vishvendra Singh, no effective action was taken.
He accused authorities of allowing individuals to use CM’s name to amass crores of rupees illegally. “Such activities continue unchecked in your own constituency raises doubts about the govt’s control over administration,” he said. Jully urged the CM to take concrete action instead of indulging in symbolic measures targeting minor offenders. On X, former CM Ashok Gehlot also criticised illegal mining in Bharatpur. The remarks by Congress functionaries came after two posts by Vishvendra Singh highlighting rampant illegal mining in the region. Singh revealed that some individuals, allegedly under the guise of administration, openly engaged in illegal leases and mining operations in Banshi Paharpur, benefiting from official support and exploiting loopholes. He alleged that a search of their properties could uncover crores of rupees amassed unlawfully, questioning whether the govt would take strict action against the powerful or continue harassing the poor and marginalised. Singh recounted an incident from early morning, describing how tractor trolleys loaded with illegally mined materials were found near Circuit House Chauraha at 3.30am. Despite informing the circle officer, no response was received even after repeated attempts to contact the local police, highlighting serious negligence. He warned that such lapses could lead to major law and order incidents, pointing out that in Deeg and Mewat, criminals continued to operate with impunity while law-abiding citizens faced unnecessary police scrutiny.
