Patna: The state govt has extended the deadline for the election of members to the empowered standing committees in all urban local bodies (ULBs) across Bihar from April 20 to April 25.Deputy CM and urban development and housing department (UDHD) minister Vijay Kumar Sinha announced the revised timeline on Saturday, stating that the decision was taken after reconsideration to address administrative and procedural requirements and to ensure better coordination at all levels.
“The objective behind extending the timeline is to ensure that the election process is conducted in a transparent, impartial and systematic manner across all municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats without any hurdles,” Sinha said.As per the earlier departmental notification issued on April 2, 2026, the elections were scheduled to be held between April 15 and 20. The deadline has now been revised to allow additional time for smooth and effective completion of the process.The deputy CM directed all district magistrates to ensure that the election of committee members in their respective districts is mandatorily completed between April 15 and 25. He also instructed that the entire exercise be carried out while strictly maintaining law and order and adhering to the principles of transparency, impartiality and prescribed rules.Sinha clarified that all other instructions and guidelines issued earlier will remain in force and must be followed. “The extension is expected to provide adequate time for planning and coordination, enabling every urban local body in the state to conduct the process in a fair and efficient manner,” he added.
