Mangaluru: The state govt dropped its earlier proposal to construct an Arogya Bhavan to house all sections of the health department in Dakshina Kannada. About 60 cents of land was earmarked for the Arogya Bhavan project at Bondel in the city. However, the plan is now shelved, with the govt deciding instead to set up a new health department office on the third floor of Praja Soudha, the deputy commissioner’s office complex in Padil. The new facility will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.DHO Dr Thimmaiah HR said that the govt sanctioned Rs 5 crore to construct the DHO office, and other offices related to the health department on the third floor of Praja Soudha. He said that a proposal was submitted to the department seeking sanctions to build a district drug warehouse on the land available at Bondel.
Prabhakar T, undersecretary to the health and family welfare department, stated in a circular that an administrative approval was given to construct various offices of the health department in Dakshina Kannada, on the third floor of Praja Soudha. While the first and second floors of Praja Soudha house the DC office, revenue department and other departments, the health department office will be set up on the third floor. The work on the RCC roof, lift, external walls and stairs was partially completed. Remaining works, including the construction of interior partitions, doors, windows, floors, false ceiling, internal wiring, washrooms, painting, intercom facilities, fire and safety measures, furniture, setting up of record rooms, shelves and other work will be taken up using the sanctioned funds, he added.
