Kanpur: A 47-year-old govt doctor allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself in the chest with his licensed revolver at his home in Kanpur early Monday.Dr Sandeep Singh, a surgeon posted at a community health centre in Kanpur Dehat, lived with his wife Kanchan, their four-year-old daughter and two-month-old son in Nirala Nagar.Kanchan entered the room after hearing a gunshot and found Singh lying in a pool of blood. Family members rushed him to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said a forensic team had seized the revolver. Kidwai Nagar SHO Neeraj Dwivedi said a family dispute had prima facie emerged as a possible factor. The body was sent for postmortem, and the exact reason would be established after questioning, he said.Singh’s father, Raj Bahadur Singh, said his daughter-in-law called him during the night and informed him that Singh had shot himself and was being taken to hospital. He said he had last spoken to his son at 9.30 pm.According to Raj Bahadur, the couple had frequent disputes over minor issues. He alleged that the couple had argued before Singh went to a prayer room and shot himself.Singh, originally from Pardevanpurwa in Lal Bangla, married Kanchan, a resident of Kasganj, in 2019. His earlier marriage to a Kanpur-based doctor in 2007 ended in divorce by mutual consent in 2018. They have a 12-year-old son.
