Srinagar, Aug 22: Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Saturday accused the elected government of adding to the hardships faced by people instead of addressing their grievances, warning that his party would oppose any move to further burden consumers, including a hike in power tariffs.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a party event, Bukhari said the Apni Party would continue to raise issues affecting the public and oppose decisions that increase their financial burden.

“We will not allow the implementation of any decision that further burdens the people, including a hike in the power tariff. We will oppose any such move tooth and nail, even if we have to take to the streets,” he said.

The remarks came during an event organised to felicitate Haji Mohammad Syed Akhoon, who was recently appointed as Apni Party Vice President after joining the party.

Congratulating Akhoon, Bukhari said the veteran leader brought extensive political experience and knowledge that would strengthen the party’s efforts to serve the people.

He said the Apni Party did not judge its leaders and workers by their positions and described it as a platform focused on public welfare rather than any individual or family.

Bukhari also said the party was committed to creating better opportunities for young people, particularly in employment, so they could build their lives with dignity.

Reacting to the recent Kishtwar tragedy involving a minor girl, Bukhari described the incident as “deeply painful and shocking” and called for severe punishment for those responsible. He urged the police and civil administration to conduct a fast-track investigation.

On US Ambassador Sergio Gor’s recent remarks describing Jammu and Kashmir as an “important part of India”, Bukhari said the statement merely reflected a fact.

“Of course, Jammu and Kashmir is an important and integral part of India,” he said, while stressing that people in J&K should enjoy the rights and privileges guaranteed to every citizen under the Constitution.

Bukhari also called for greater attention to the hardships faced by youth in Jammu and Kashmir, saying there was an urgent need to address their concerns and provide them with opportunities.
