Kolkata / Darjeeling: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Wednesday urged the Bengal govt to appoint members of the Gorkhaland Personnel (GLP) as Home Guards, saying volunteers who supported the Gorkhaland movement deserve govt jobs.GJM president Bimal Gurung and general secretary Roshan Giri raised the demand during separate meetings with chief minister Suvendu Adhikari and labour and transport minister Arjun Singh in Kolkata. The party also invited the CM to its foundation day celebrations in Darjeeling on Oct 7.Gurung welcomed the Centre’s appointment of former deputy NSA Pankaj Kumar Singh as interlocutor for tripartite talks on Darjeeling, Terai and Dooars, expressing hope for a permanent political solution. He also sought an impartial probe into alleged financial irregularities in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.“We requested the govt to consider appointing GLP members as Home Guards. They have served the people during difficult times and many of them are still unemployed. We hope the govt will take a positive decision,” Giri told TOI.
