Kolkata: A 19-year-old college student, hailing from Giridih in Jharkhand and studying at a reputable college in the city, reported to Girish Park PS that she and her male friend were assaulted, verbally abused, and molested on the night of March 4 while returning to her north Kolkata PG accommodation on a scooter.This happened after they protested against indecent comments directed at her, with the accused even resorting to moral policing. The incident was reported from Baranasi Ghosh Street in central Kolkata.According to the plaint, the incident occurred around 9.55 pm when they reached near the Kandari Club area on Baranasi Ghosh Street. The woman alleged that as she and her friend rode their scooter, another scooter with several persons approached from the opposite direction. She alleged the group shouted sexually suggestive and inappropriate remarks at her. When she objected, one of the men allegedly started moral policing and then suddenly got off and moved aggressively towards the duo.The complainant alleged the man then began assaulting her male friend, even slapping and punching him. She further stated that the assailant used a key to cause injury during the attack. When she protested, she alleged the group continued to use abusive and inappropriate language directed at her, which she said outraged her modesty.The complaint further alleged that during the altercation, a gold neck chain belonging to her friend and her mobile went missing. She claimed the items might have been misplaced or lost amid the scuffle, but insisted she suspected they were robbed by the accused.Police said a complaint was received at Girish Park PS and a probe was initiated to identify the persons involved and verify the sequence of events. Officers are examining the location near Kandari Club and checking for any available CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the suspects. Statements from the woman, her friend, and potential witnesses in the area are also being recorded.The condition of the injured man was stated to be stable. No arrests were reported at the time of filing the report.
