Thiruvananthapuram: Police arrested a notorious goon who allegedly attacked a man with a steel pipe following a verbal dispute at Pallithottam in Kollam. The accused Shanu Zakir, 30 of Pallithottam, is listed as a history-sheeter at Pallithottam police station and is an accused in around 25 criminal cases.The incident occurred around 10.30pm on Feb 2 when the victim, Pradeep John, a native of Pallithottam, was standing with friends near a beach. Police said the accused got into an argument with the victim and assaulted him with a steel pipe, causing injuries.

Based on John’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused. He was produced before a court and remanded to district jail. Police said the accused had earlier been placed under preventive detention three times under Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act and was also booked in a case related to assault on prison officials during detention. The arrest was carried out by a team led by Pallithottam inspector Shefeek and his team.
