Kolkata: With good scores in the class 10 boards, several city CBSE schools have reported that students who earlier wanted to appear for a second board exam have started withdrawing their names. However, schools on Thursday issued fresh circulars to know how many still want to avail of the second chance to improve their scores. At The Newtown School, principal Satabdi Bhattacharjee said 22 students had initially enrolled for the second test, but 12 have withdrawn. She said the withdrawals reflected the school’s strong performance this year. Out of 201 students who appeared for the exams, 99 scored above 90%.The Asian International School has also asked students to submit a Google Form by April 18 if they wished to improve their scores through the second exam. Principal Simran Sanghera said 171 students appeared for the exam and 65 scored above 90%. Most of the remaining students also performed well. She said only six students have registered for the second test so far. She expects the number to remain low. According to her, many students do not see the value in spending two months preparing for a second test when they have already achieved strong results. At Birla High School, principal Lovleen Saigal said five students had showed interest in appearing for the second test, but four want to withdraw. The school has circulated a notice to assess the final number. South Point School may still see some students opting for the second examination, especially in subjects such as mathematics and science. Principal Jaidev Ghosh said 76 students applied earlier, but some have since requested to withdraw. CBSE has already issued a notice on its two-board-examination policy. Under the system, students may appear in a maximum of three subjects during the second test in May. DPS Howrah principal Sunita Arora said the policy also allows students who chose mathematics standard to switch to mathematics basic, and vice versa.
