Patna: Thieves allegedly decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 3-4 lakh from a Durga idol at a temple in Imamganj market under Paliganj subdivision in Patna on Thursday, triggering concern over a spate of recent thefts from religious places in the area.The theft came to light when devotees arrived for morning prayers and found the idol’s gold eyes, nose ring and mang-tikka missing. Local resident Mahesh Kumar said the ornaments had been donated by devotees through public contributions.SHO Roshan Kumar said police reached the temple after receiving information and were scanning CCTV footage from nearby establishments to identify those involved.The incident comes close on the heels of alleged thefts of Ashtadhatu idols from Thakurbadis in Karakat Bigha and Ankuri village. Police are also investigating whether the cases are linked.
